Solar Boat Racing
The sun shone brightly on the solar panels when Torquay College was host to the Solar Boat Challenge. On Friday 18th October, 19 boats competed from Torquay College and Deans Marsh Primary School. The Year 5 and 6 students had a fantastic time and displayed amazing engineering and design skills, teamwork and collaboration.
Students worked in teams or individually to complete the design, wiring and construction of their solar boat from scratch during a lunch time club. All students should be very proud of their efforts and the way they conducted themselves during building the boats and also competition.
A big thank you to Pat and Graham from Surf Coast Energy Group, and John from Model Solar Victoria for volunteering their time, resources and knowledge to help the students. Also, thank you to Bunnings Torquay for supplying tools for the students to use and prizes for the competitors and Deans Marsh Primary School for visiting and the friendly competition.
