Year 5's Earn and Learn

Vote 1! As part of the Year 5 Earn and Learn program in Inquiry, the students participated in an incursion from the Victorian Electoral Commission. Amy, VEC Educator and Inclusion Officer, taught the students about the democratic voting process in Australia. They heard about rights, responsibilities, issues, preferential voting and how important it is to be heard. The Year 5’s then took part in their own election, putting forward five political parties; presenting their campaigns. They wrote and delivered outstanding, speeches to persuade the other students why their party should be voted to govern the recently renamed U.S.T (United States of Torquay) . The students were amazing and learnt that EVERY VOTE COUNTS in a democracy.
