Principal's Newsletter
Thank you all for another successful and productive term at Torquay College. It’s absolutely incredible how much we manage to fit into a ten week program, and I’m always astounded as to how much our students mature in such a short period. This is particularly evident in our Preps, who have all seem to have had a highly successful transition from Kinder into their ‘formal’ schooling, and next term will attend for the entire five day week. Their success is a testament to the hard work and commitment of both you as parents, and our staff members.
Athletics Sports Day – last Friday was hot and blustery, but it certainly didn’t deter our students from having some competitive fun at our Athletics Carnival. The health and fitness of our students really shines out at events such as these, and it was fantastic to see so many students actively participate. Thank you to Brad and Dan, our PE teachers, for all their hard work and preparation, and thank you to school staff and all the families who turned up to support the students.
Farewell – Cathy Ashenhurst, who has worked in our OSHC Program for nearly 25 years, will be leaving us at the end of this term. Cathy has been a very valued staff member and will be sorely missed. Her association with the school goes beyond being an employee, but she has also been a parent, with her own children also having attended the school. We wish her all the best for the future and thank her for all her positive contributions over the years.
China Information session – There will be an information session held in the presentation Room on Thursday at 6pm to assess interest in our cultural exchange program with China. Parents of students in Grade 5 and 6 are welcome to attend.
Last Friday of term – Just a reminder that we will have an early dismissal this Friday, and as a result there will not be an Assembly. Students will however be able to wear their ‘PJs’ to school as a fundraising activity for the Good Friday Appeal. Thank you to our JSC for organising this fun event. Have a great Easter break and I hope the Easter Bunny is very generous when visiting your home!
