The Foundation students have been so busy this term learning all about toys and the forces which make them move. There has been a 'toy flurry' in classrooms as students have been making scientific toys and designing and creating a toy of their choice using recyclable materials. Today the students are all excited to be showing off their toys in our 'Toy Expo', where Foundation families are invited to come and join us in celebrating the students' success. Here are just a few ph
Kita Performing Arts Company came to our school for the Year 2 Asia incursion which involved the sharing of their cultures with us. They did this through dance and conversations.
Kita is an Indonesian word that means ‘we’. We chose this word for our name because of its Indonesian meaning, and also because the letters of the word 'Kita' stand for our home countries; Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan and our new homeland of Australia. “Ruby and Baos were the dancers. I liked the dance
In Week 6 this term the Year 4’s packed up their belongings and re-located to the Pods while the Year 5’s and 6’s were on camp. Feeling very excited about this open learning experience, and a little nervous, the Year 4’s very quickly adapted to Pod life. They learnt all about how the Pods work, the rules and expectations, as well as the extra responsibility that comes along with being in the Pods. All of the Year 4 teachers were so proud of the way the students took on the re
Congratulations to all the Year Four students who participated in the Peer Mediation Training Day. These students completed a range of activities, which taught them skills to use as a peer mediator. Some of these were; identifying feelings and body language, people’s emotions and various role plays with different scenarios. They all did a fantastic job and we look forward to seeing them out in the yard soon making a difference.
It was finally our turn to amaze the crowd with the Prep performance at assembly last week. During the week, students practised singing and dancing to their song and speaking to their class in anticipation for the sea of proud faces they would have at assembly. C1 and C2 worked together to perform Moose Cha Cha as this is a song they use when needing a brain break. C4 and C6 performed the bucket filling song which reminds us how to be a good bucket filler. C3 and C5 chose a
On Wednesday 14th of November the Grade Four students at Torquay College were lucky enough to spend the day down at Cosy Corner. We braved the weather conditions in the morning and expected that it was just not going to be kind for us today. However, by the time we had arrived at the beach the rain was gone and we didn’t see a drop again all day! The students had a wonderful time ‘Living and Learning by the Sea’, participating in beach games, beachcombing through the rock poo
ZAP! Have you ever been zapped when bouncing on a trampoline? Maybe, when you touched the car door? Or even when you touched a door knob? Well, the Year Ones can now explain why this little electric shock happens! We experimented by ‘charging up’ balloons (rubbing them on our hair) and watching what happened as we moved our hand underneath…….. Guess What!? The balloon followed our hand!! The electrical charge we had built up by rubbing the balloon on our hair was attracted to
On Friday the Year 2 students challenged themselves and participated in a range of activities at the YMCA’s Anglesea Recreation Camp.
Activities included bouldering, mini-golf, Minute-To-Win-It, parachute games, low ropes, team building and others, each requiring elements of collaboration and resilience to complete them successfully.
Students were also grouped with others from different classes, in preparation for their transition to Year 3 in 2019.
Remembrance Day – thank you to the parents and community members who joined us for our special assembly on Friday to commemorate Remembrance Day. It was fantastic to have our students respectfully participate in the service and to lay wreaths in honour of those who have served our country. Remembrance Day this year had a special significance as Sunday, 11 November 2018, marked the 100th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Camp Week – All of
