    Immigration Journey Incursion

    The students investigated immigration to Australia throughout history and today. They explored the reasons why people immigrate to Australia from other countries, and they understand the contributions immigrants have made to Australian society. They learnt the rights and responsibilities of Australian citizenship and now appreciate the diverse and multicultural make-up of Australian society.

    Abracadabra!

    Today in Science, the Foundation students created magical potions with special powers. They mixed different materials such as, 'Big Bad Wolf's Blood', 'Wizard Water', 'Giant's Toenails' and 'Fairy God Mothers Glitter' and observed the changes that were happening when the materials were being mixed together. The students then used their imaginations to develop the special powers for their potions.

    Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre

    This term, the year three students are investigating 'Watharong, People Who Belong to Water' as their Inquiry unit. On Tuesday 21st August, all grades head out on an excursion to Narana. While we were there, students discovered indigenous flora and fauna, learnt how to throw boomerangs and listened to a wonderful presentation about artefacts.     The Year 2 students had a wonderful time at swimming last week at Leisurelink. They were engaged in stroke development and water safety, with excellent student to swim teacher ratios.

    Year Ones at the Library

    As part of the Year One 'Australian Stories' unit, we have been visiting the Torquay branch of the Geelong Regional Library. While we were there, we met Bridie who read us some of her favourite Australian stories as well as teaching us some songs and dances. Bridie even taught us to sing 'I Can Sing a Rainbow' in Australian Sign Language (Auslan). We had a great time!

    The buzz on the bus on the way in to the annual Geelong Schools Music and Movement Festival is always palpable, with this year no exception. 58 performing arts students represented Torquay College with a high level of enthusiasm, exemplifying school values and reaping the rewards of their hard work.     This term in Physical Education students have been learning Gymnastics. They have been exploring different balances and sequences using various apparatus.
    Year 2 Students Coding With Sphero Robots

    Year 2 Students Coding With Sphero Robots

    This term, students in Year 2 are engaging with high-tech Sphero robotic devices, as part of a whole-school approach to coding and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). They are working together to control Spheros with simple sequences of instructions via an iPad app, creating a valuable foundation for more sophisticated concepts.
