We have enjoyed celebrating Book Week at Torquay College, presenting all the CBCA shortlisted books and voting for our College favourite. Our guest presenter, Mark Penzac, was interesting and engaging. The students' story writing has been a big feature in our Library in our "Writers' and Illustrators Festival". Our students have enjoyed having their own book featuring in the Library and parents and grandparents have commented on their pleasure in being able to share them wit
To celebrate Book Week last week, the Foundation students published their very first book and dressed up as their favourite book characters. Everyone put so much effort into their costumes! We had superheroes, Wally's, princesses, animals, Harry Potter's and fairytale characters to name a few. We loved watching the parade and seeing what other people had dressed up as - especially our buddies!
The year 3 students had a fantastic week enjoying the Torquay College Writers and Illustrators Festival! The students worked hard on writing and illustrating their own book week stories, which were displayed in the school library. During the week we enjoyed reading and discussing books that were nominated for the 'Australian Picture Storybook of the Year'. The week ended with a celebration of fantastic dress-ups! Students and teachers loved dressing up as their favourite book
This week all of the Year One students participated in the swimming program at Leisurelink in Waurn Ponds. The students thoroughly enjoyed learning how to do new swimming strokes, floating techniques, different breathing techniques and the safest way to enter the pool. They look forward to practicing these skills next time they are at the pool or beach.
What a wonderful week we had celebrating the ‘Torquay College Writers and Illustrators Festival’. Throughout the week, we read and completed activities about the books nominated for the ‘Australian Picture Storybook of the Year’. The books we read included; I’m Australian Too, Hark It’s Me Ruby Lee, Rodney Loses It, Don’t Lick This Book, The Very Noisy Baby and The Second Sky.
What an exciting time we have had! The Foundation students loved learning how to program these cute little robots and problem solve with a partner, how to get them to move forwards and backwards as well as turning around. Lots of excitement and forward thinking relating to other challenges as they can use the Bee Bots as learning tools.
On Friday 24th of August, Torquay College held our annual Book Week Parade. It was great to see the huge effort that the Year Four students put into their costumes, they looked AMAZING!!! It was such a fun morning, thoroughly enjoyed by all, and such a fantastic way to see our community come together and embrace our love for books and reading.
"Wow, how cool are the pirates!", said everyone............. On Friday, August 24th the Year Six students and staff participated in the annual Book Week Parade and what a parade it was. All of the teachers and students dressed up and paraded around the gymnasium, all with smiles and high fives for the rest of the school. It's such a pity that it was the last parade for our Year Six students.
On Monday the 20th of August the students in Year Four at Torquay College were lucky enough to enjoy a performance called 'The Labyrinth in the Library', written and performed by Mark Penzak. This was an exciting and adventurous performance that explored the value of reading in a digital age. The students thoroughly enjoyed this engaging and humorous performance, being able to interact throughout, sharing their ideas and giggling along the way.
